What to Expect

  • Team Captains and Alternates:
Captains and alternates must be clearly indicated on the scoresheet for each game.
  • Pucks and Locks:
Pucks and locks are supplied by the league.
  • Duplicate Jersey Numbers:
Duplicate numbers are allowed due to the way teams are made and the nature of HockeyTourney jerseys.
If you are on a team with duplicate numbers, you must check with the scorekeeper after the game to ensure your stats are recorded correctly.
If there is an issue, you can also submit a stat correction request here.
  • Matching Jerseys:
Please review our policy on matching jerseys by visiting
    this link.

Player Registration

The Team Manager or Captain (whoever has Team Manager access in TeamSnap) is responsible for keeping player statuses up to date.
Any player expected to play fewer than five games this season — across all teams they are registered with — should be marked as a Non-Player in TeamSnap.

If a player is already registered in TeamSnap on another team, they do not need to be registered on your team for substitutions.

Each team may have a maximum of 16 players (including skaters and goalies) listed as Players.
Any players beyond the 16-player limit may be subject to a $30 fee.
For Fall Winter Season 2025, this fee is payable by the player to the league once they have played five games, at which point they can be listed as a Player on a team in TeamSnap.

For Fall/Winter 2025 players must play 6 games for a team to qualify

To help keep things fair, teams that do not keep their rosters up to date may lose the ability to bring in substitutes.

Substitution Policy

Some teams register as a full team but still want the flexibility to bring in substitutes. This is perfectly fine, as long as teams follow the registration policy above.

ARCHL will maintain a sub list for teams that choose to opt in.

  1. To opt in, the Team Manager or Captain must let us know directly.
  2. The full roster must still be registered in TeamSnap, but only players listed as Players (not Non-Players) will be eligible to sub.
  3. When a player or goalie sub is needed, ARCHL will send a message to teams asking for substitutes. Teams in the same division or players of appropriate skill will be prioritized when sending requests out.

While teams are welcome to find their own substitutes through their network, we ask that you also make use of the ARCHL sub list whenever possible.
This helps give full-time players, who have paid to be registered and teams providing sub spots the first opportunity to sub and stay active in the community.
We encourage all teams to give more than they take:
Relying only on the list to play free games without offering opportunities back takes more from the community than it gives and we want to keep a healthy balance that supports everyone.

    TeamSnap Lineups Feature
  • Using Chat:
While TeamSnap includes a chat feature, it’s not as robust as other apps. Plenty of teams choose to set up a separate chat Whatsapp group for the locker room,

PIM Threshold and Suspension Policy

  • Player Penalty Minute (PIM) Thresholds:
    • 22 PIM – Automatic 1-game suspension
    • 32 PIM – Automatic 2-game suspension
    • 42 PIM – Suspended until further review
  • Team Penalty Minute (PIM) Thresholds:
    • 150 PIM – Expulsion from the league (need to review)
  • Suspensions for reaching PIM thresholds are non-reviewable.
If you consistently take penalties, you must adjust your style of play to continue participating in this league.
  • If you are a repeat offender from previous seasons, you must undergo a review after your first suspension.
  • All suspensions will be communicated to the insurance provider.

Game Ejections

  • If you are ejected in the last 10 minutes of a game, you will serve an automatic 1-game suspension for that team.

Equipment Requirements

  • All players must wear full hockey gear as outlined by Hockey Canada.
  • Neck guards are optional.
  • Players must wear either a full cage or a half visor.
  • Mouthguards are recommended in both cases.
    • If a mouthguard is not worn and a half visor is used, players will not be eligible to claim dental coverage for accidents.

Abuse of Referees and Game Officials

Abuse of referees will not be tolerated.

  • If you receive a penalty, your only response should be to go directly to the penalty box.Questioning or arguing calls slows the game down and is not acceptable.
  • If you feel you were unfairly targeted, you can fill out a Game Feedback Form after the game, and we will review the situation. Only Captains and Alternates may talk to the referees.
  • Note: All ARCHL staff members complete Game Feedback Form after each game.
This helps us monitor and identify the very small number of players who consistently create disruptions.
  • If a serious breach of our Code of Conduct or rules occurs, a suspension can still be issued even if a penalty was not called during the game — provided there is sufficient evidence.
  • Please respect referees, scorekeepers, and fellow players. This is a fun community and we all share the responsibility to help it grow the right way.
